Public Health and Councillors from Derby City Council Join Derbyshire Catering Team to Celebrate National School Meals Week

Derby City Council proudly joined forces with Derbyshire County Council’s Catering Team to mark National School Meals Week, a nationwide campaign led by LACA – The School Food People. The initiative celebrates the vital role of school meals in supporting children’s health, wellbeing, and learning.

Councillor Alison Martin, Derby City Council Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care, highlighted the importance of nutritious meals:
“School meals are more than just food; they are a vital investment in a child's health, providing the energy and nutrition they need for their healthy development and to support their learning in the classroom.”

Councillor Paul Hezelgrave, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Skills, added:
“National School Meals Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the dedication of our catering teams. School meals are so valuable, bringing the school community together and also providing vital support to families.”

The celebrations also included members of Derby City Council’s Public Health team, reinforcing the shared commitment to promoting healthy eating and wellbeing across schools.

This collaboration demonstrates a united effort across Derby and Derbyshire to ensure every child has access to healthy, balanced meals that fuel learning and growth. National School Meals Week is not only a celebration of food—it’s a recognition of the people and partnerships that make it possible.
