Celebrating 50 Years of Service: Dilys Brunt Honoured by Community

This May, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone for one of High Peak’s most cherished members of the catering service team, Dilys Brunt, who marked an incredible 50 years of dedicated service.
On the last Friday of half term, colleagues, friends, and members of the local community came together for a special afternoon tea celebration in honour of Dilys’ remarkable career. Guests included former and current school staff, catering service colleagues past and present, and members of the wider community – all eager to recognise the lasting impact Dilys has made over five decades.
The event was filled with warmth, laughter and shared memories, as many reflected on Dilys’ unwavering commitment, kindness and professionalism. Throughout her career, Dilys has not only provided nutritious meals but has also helped create a welcoming environment for generations of pupils.
A Celebration with the Children of Fairfield Infant & Nursery School
Adding to the celebrations, pupils at Fairfield Infant & Nursery School in Buxton held a special assembly dedicated to Dilys. The children shared a brilliant chant in her honour, filling the room with energy and appreciation.
As a lasting tribute, each class contributed to a ‘magical’ memory book, filled with creative artwork and messages for Dilys. The book captured just how much she means to the children she serves every day and will be a treasured keepsake recognising her incredible contribution.
A Career that Made a Difference
Over 50 years, it is estimated that Dilys helped serve an astonishing: 1.40 million meals
This figure represents not just numbers, but countless daily interactions, smiles, and moments of care that have supported pupils and staff alike.
Dilys’ influence goes far beyond the kitchen. She has trained and mentored many colleagues, passing on her knowledge, skills and passion for the catering service. Many of those she has supported have gone on to build their own successful careers, a testament to her guidance and encouragement.

Recognition Beyond the Community
Dilys’ incredible story has rightly gained widespread attention. During the celebration, she was interviewed by BBC Radio Derby, and both BBC and ITV attended to capture her story for digital and televised features.
This recognition highlights not only Dilys’ personal achievement, but also the vital role that school catering teams play in communities across the region.

Dilys is truly a pillar of the High Peak community. Her dedication, reliability and warmth have made her a familiar and much-valued presence over the years.
As we reflect on this milestone, it is clear that Dilys’ legacy is one of service, mentorship and community spirit. Her contribution has left a lasting mark on thousands of lives, and her commitment continues to inspire those around her.
